Mangoes - A Brief History
Mangoes are believed to have originated in south and southeast Asia, most notably India, about 5,000 years ago.
They have since spread and are grown extensively in most tropical and sub-tropical countries of the world, with India accounting for about 60% of the worlds production.
It's generally accepted that they came to Bowen in Northern Queensland in the late 1800's via SE Asian traders, there, a sweeter, more palatable, non stringy variety was developed on a property called "Kensington", thereby leading to our most commonly grown variety called the "Kensington Pride" also known as the "Bowen"

All of our products are on display and along with taking some of our dried tropical fruit home, you can eat one of our delicious, home made, Mango Swirl or Dragonfruit Swirl icecreams while you're strolling the market in the warm tropical evening air.
